Hi, I am new here but wondering if you fine folks could help me out.  I have a 2007 Expy EB EL and I want to install a Bluetooth kit in it.  However, I have no idea how to get to the back of the radio.  Anyone have a good source on instructions, hopefully with pictures, to show how to get the radio out?

Thanks!

Welcome to the site..

The Insrtument Panel Center Finish Panel is a snap fit along with the lower panel.. Here's a few images for clarity...

Thanks Hayapower,

Can you tell me where you get the images from?  Also, is there any secrets to removing the panels?  Since it is only 4 weeks old, I am hesitant about pulling on the panels.

I also see you are a biker, hayabusa I am guessing.  I ride a Honda VFR.

When pulling the dash panels, pull evenly, and it helps sometimes to get behind the panel right around the attaching clip to help it release with a pick ect.. You can tell in the images the area's of the clips..

Yea, I ride an 03 Anniversary Edition... I test rode a VFR 800 prior to the Busa, as well as concidered a Suzuki RF.. VFR's a nice bike.....

Thanks,
I was looking at the panel, it almost appears you need a tool to get into the edges to even start pulling.  Any advice there?  I may have to see if my local dealer would remove the panel for me and then I can just snap it back in place.

I am planning on installing a new HU in my 2007 Expedition EL this weekend.  Thanks for the images, they will help.  I will try to take pictures as I do it and post.

Does anyone have any advice for me before I tackle this project?

I went to Best Buy to get the radio wire harness and they told me that they no longer carry the 2007 harness nor do they install stereos in 2007 Fords at this time because they require some type of "data cable" that they do not carry.  I went to a smaller shop in town and they were not aware of any problem with the harness and so I am going to try the one they have.

BTW...

I am installing a double DIN Kenwood DNX7100 DVD navigation HU with backup camera, iPod adapter, Bluetooth, and steering wheel control (PAC SWI-X).

I am a bit concerned how well everything will work together after the install. Mostly the rear seat DVD entertainment package.

Here are some tips for anyone installing an aftermarket head unit in a 2007 Expedition...

1. The factory wire harness does not have a 12V remote power lead required to turn the unit on when the ignition is turned on.  You have to buy a special adapter (Metra XSVI-5520) or wire the remote wire to a 12V source that is only powered when the ignition is turned on.  If you do not get the adapter, you will loose the function of the radio staying on until you open the door, rather the radio will turn off when you turn off the ignition.  I wired mine to the A/C control fuse in the fuse box.

2. The Ford amplifier (if you have a sub) requires a 5v remote feed where almost every other aftermarket amp requires a 12v remote feed. If you use the 12v remote wire from your aftermarket HU, the sub woofer will "Pop" when you turn on your car.  You will have to put a resistor on this wire to drop the voltage down to 5v.  This can be done with a resistor or Radio Shack item # 276-1770.

To my knowledge nothing will work with the factory RSE except the original factory set-up.... at least that's what I've been told over and over again from Ford, big box stores, car audio stores, and "tech geeks".... much to my disappointment I might add. Pleeeeeeease tell me you were able to get it to work! And if so.... what'd you use?

It worked for me!
And was told the same thing about it not working.

See the following link with a good description on how it is done...

Hope this helps!

Now I am going to try and figure out how to wire the rear entertainment DVD to play threw the speakers.

Does anyone have a wire diagram for the DVD wire harness at the factory Head Unit?

I'm anxiously awaiting your update on the RSE!!!!

I've also been doing some research.. seems to me that any head unit with Dual Zone capability will work with the RSE.. your stero and the Kenwood DPX 502 are a couple that I'm looking into. I even emailed Kenwood USA and they assure me it'll work with my system. Not quite sure that I want to fork over that much cash for the navigation unit.. but the 502 seems to be adequate enough for me. Whoever knew a dvd system could be such a pain in the a**!

Update us and post some pics when you're done... would love to see the end result!

Good luck!
