I have an 2007 Explorer 4X4 with 7000 miles on it and it seems to have some issues.
I was wondering if anybody out here is experiencing transmission noise with their auto trans., shifting from park to reverse? It clunks when the transmission engages. Also, every now and then, the rpm's seem to rev. up and the car (if I'm not crazy) pushes slightly forward. Anyhow, it's at the dealer and they say everything is normal and they can't find anything. Well, not while they have driven it. So, they can keep it until they hear the problem because that's the only way they will look into it further. Oh, and if they can not, I will be forking out $95 dollars for their assessment.
If anybody has any ideas or suggestions, feel free.

I do not know what is wrong but my 2002 Ford Explorer is doing some of the same things. The rpms go up and down on their own and the overdrive light starts flashing on and off when I drive over 65. I was told that it might be possible internal solonoid damage/shift solonoid B. fifth gear ratio out of range. Anyway I just bought the vehicle 6 mos ago and now they are telling me it will cost $500 to fix this. I was wondering if other Ford vehicles have had this problem. It sounds similar to your problem. Good luck!

Take a look at
www.carcomplaints.com and you will see many model Explorers going all the way back to 2002 doind the same thing. Ford is aware and doing nothing to fix.
