turned truck off, went into store, came back out, truck wouldn't start. Waited an hour and a half and truck fired, drove 2 miles and it quit again. Had truck towed home. Replaced fuel filter and fuel pump. truck wouldn't start. Read all the postings on this forum, tried everything I could think of, checked for spark, checked that gas was coming up to injectors, checked all the wiring, checked fuel reset switch, checked all hoses. Truck still won't start. Looked for fuses, can't find any. Only thing inside the passenger kick panel is the EFI box. No fuses under hood that I can see either.
Any ideas or suggestions would be really appreciated. (Just remember that I am a 46 year old grandma that likes to get greasy working on her own vehicles.) I've never attemped electronic fuel injection before. But I'll try anything that is suggested. Thanks for y'alls time.

I'm not very knowledgeable about a 1986. I have a 1995. I did everything to get it to start. Spent a lot of money. It turned out to be a Ford relay switch causing the problem. They are in a black box under the hood. Do you have a manual or some way to check if your Ranger has relay switches?

no, I have no manual of any kind. I'm going to buy a Chilton or Hayes book next pay day.
it sounds kinda funny but my grandpa's escort was doing the exact same thing, and he replaced the distributor, and all was well after that, i guess there was some sort of fault in there, thats just a ballpark guess though

I had a 86 ranger that did the same thing.I wound up having it towed to a shop it was there for a week they could not find out what was wrong. It would run fine .Then it would just die.Turns out to be there was a recall on one of the relay's.I would call ford service mabey they can help you, 94 4x4 ranger
