What is the biggest altenator I can put on my 1995 F250 powerstroke (7.3)?  I run emergency lights on it.
Thanks

talk with DB Electrical,1-800-753-2242.I just had a 200 amp small body made for me..$212.00.Or go to www.db-starter-alternator.com .So far I'm pretty satisfied.Seems like a good shop.

That won't mess up my batteries or hurt any of the radios will it? Sounds like enough power. I only have a stock 95 amp right now.

no...the voltage regulator will only allow enough power to satisfy the load. The 200 amp alternator they sell has a smaller pulley...called an overdrive pulley..so that it can deliver 100 amps at idle.If you have a lot of equipment to power at idle, this ought to do it.The shop recommended adding an additional #4 wire between the bat terminal on the alternator, and feed to the supply terminal at the starter solenoid,so that enough current can flow w/o overheating the wiring.I had the 95 amp alternator too...seems like it had a bad VR,so I just went new with everything.Seems like the old one was overcharging and killing my batteries.

My altenantor acts like it isn't carrying the load well. If I have my head lights on it will drop way down and dim the lights, then when you give it fuel they brighten up till you stop and idle again.  It is a new altenator also. Last year the main wire to it heated enough to burn off so i replaced the end and it did what I mentioned earlier.  I replaced the altenator and it is still doing the same thing.  I also replaced my starter, starter cylenoid, both batteries, and checked all grounds.  I don't know if O'reillys sold me a bad altenator or if something else is wrong. Before the wire burned off the power gauge used to snap right over and never went down when idling.

well,I think I'd call B-D and explain your situation. They seem to know the right way of improving it.
