I replaced the front drive axles on my 90 Taurus a few months ago, and I had a local shop do the work. There is play / slop on both axles that make a clunking-racket when going over bumps. I took the car back to the shop, and the guy was reluctant to do anything to help me, and says "all those kinda cars make a little noise"....which I know is BS.
Long story short....is there anything that I can do to take up the play / slop?....maybe by adding spacers or wave washers of some kind to one end of the axle or the other? This is probably an odd thread question, and I expect to hear that "he did it wrong and I have to get it done again"....but ANY help would be appreciated. This car is 16 years new, and Mickey Mouse is fine so long as it works.
THANKS!!!!

I appreciate your ignorance.
So far, this site gave me one good answer and one where nobody can give an idea for weeks. This site is balls.

this is one of the best sites i have ever used. you get real good advice. it does in fact sound like your axels and they cost about 300 bucks a side. problem is most mechanics but rebuilt ones and some are not great.

By the way....each axle is $60 new at Autozone....where the heck are you getting $300? I found out that one of the axle nuts was a little loose....just like the guy who put them in. Still, thanks but no thanks for this site.
