When air temperature is around or below 5°C the very first start of my 2004 Fusion TDI is a bet...
Sometime, when I turn the key, the starter runs about half a second and then it stops: no strange noises, no apparent strain to the battery: it simply stops running. The feeling is that some electronic component decide to cut the power to the solenoid.
This happens randomly, as otherwise all goes fine.
Two visits to the dealer shop gave no results: they checked all things, reproduced the problem, replaced the starter motor, but the problem persists.

Fusion is brand new to my dealership. When it's figured out please post here again. It would be nice to know for future troubles I might come across. There's no base engine concern that would cause that problem so I'd think "maybe....." Incorrectly aligned keyway/ignition lock cylinder. Faulty (Electrical) ignition switch. Maybe a new PCM calibration that monitors cranking speed and turns off starter when PCM senses engine start....

Really is a mystery on my end. Need more info or more experience on the model. At least you have warranty to keep yourself going for awhile.

PCM calibration... It looks me quite a demanding service for a random problem. At least it will be useful to check the level of service Ford dealer can offer. I'll keep you infomed. Many thanks

Yea as of the last few yrs. now the Dealer can FLASH the puther. to do up dates or improvements to it that use to require replacement of the puther. An in the newer vechiles theres a whole level of various changes that you can go in an TWEAK, As with anything new theres bound to be bugs to work out. Good Luck

Nice Catch. Didn't notice the '04 until now. Fusion is an '06 model in US too. Still hoping to learn something on this thread.
