The subject pretty much says it all. I took my 98 XLT for inspection and failed. I was told that the parking brake isn't holding the vehicle. Any suggestions? TIA

Rear disc brakes?  The shoes are on the inside of the rotors. I believe the only adjustment on this system is like adjusting old drum brakes.  There should be an access hole in the back of the backing plate on the bottom.  You can adjust the brakes through the access hole with a spoon adjuster, making sure you don't get it too tight, because backing them off is no fun.

I bet the rear parking brake lining has come unbonded and will need new P.Brake shoes installed.

Do you guys think it would cost me an arm and a leg to get this fixed???

Maybe just one testicle.

I would guess around $200.00 for total if it is a rear P.brake shoe replacement.

Are you getting any noise from the rear brake area?  This would indicate a lining that has come loose.  Otherwise, adjust them .

So, have you tried to adjust the emergency brakes?  Just turn the screw a couple of turns and see if it trys to hold.
