I have 1995 Explorer and the headlights will not work correctly. When I start the car the headlights come in dim "daytime running light" brightness. I then try to turn headlights on and they do not get brighter. I can pull highbeam switch back and I get brights. I then replaced headlights with brand new bulbs. Still nothing worked. so I tried all fuses just to check if any were blown. I found that if I pull out fuse no 3 "running lights" then the headlight switch works and the high low beam works but of course I have no running lights (tail lights etc) . I put fuse back in and the headlights go off and only work as discribed above. I discussed this with 3 mechanics from Ford Dealership and they told me it was the "daytime running light module" and that it was a simple replacement. It was but it did not do anything. Cost me 200.00 plus bulbs so far. I checked all other bulbs and lights on vechile to make sure this was not Fords way of telling me I had a reverse light bulb out or something but everything works correctly. It appears to me that the high low switch works as it works correctly with fuse 3 out. I also believe that the headlight switch works as it appears to work correctly also when fuse 3 is out.

Any insight to this issue would be appreciated.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

If your head lights have a bad ground this will happen.
Try this remove the body ground wire by the head lights and clean it with sand paper then where that ground attach's sand that too.

I tired looking for the ground wire you talked about for the headlights. Can you direct me to where it should be located?

I have seen numerous headlight switches go bad on most Ford models. Inspect it for melting.
