i have a 94' Rnager, ive put a lot of money into.  I am pondering waht i should do next.  My truck is great, but i about to hit 151,000 miles.  the engine is starting to burn oil.  The trucks paint is in good condition but has its flaws.  I have about an extra $2500 into the truck besides the $3000 that i paid for it.  I checked the price on a NEW 2.3 (dont want to upgrade to a 3.0 or 4.0 because it would cost way too much and is a big headache) i got a price of $1400 on a new one, i figure another $800-$1000 dollars on getting the few minor dents fixed & a new paint job., other than that, i just need a new headliner and a rear axle leak fixed.  I am asking if i should get a newer Ranger (same size as mine) and put my chrome fims and other stuff from current truck on, or should i just redo mine?

I am confused, $1400 on a new one? is that new to you but a used truck, or did you mean $14,000 for a brand new one?

This is a tough decision. First ask will it be a burdon on you financially, not just now but later. If it isn't, then I would say get a new one. But those 4 banger engines will last. I had a 93 and it was the 2.3l. It had close to 150,000 miles on it when I traded it in. The only problem I had with it was the clutch was going out. I put that much on in 3 years because I was a field service tech and had to use our own vehicles. To this day sometimes I wonder if I shuold have just kept it for a couple years more and had the clutch fixed.

If your happy with the truck and it's mechanically sound, then I would go ahead with the $1400 engine and fix the rear.  I would put a No-Slip Traction System  by http://www.powertrax.com/noslip.htm
