newbie - just bought used F-250

hey all,
just purchased a used 04 F-250 XL 5.4L  FX4 supercab. 
it has 79,000 miles - do the 5.4L engines have good reliability, durability, longevity?
how many more miles should i be able to get out of the engine?  (given i do regular oil changes, etc.) 
 
also, it's got a chrome tailgate handle that i want to replace with a black one, or paint black.  anyone know how to remove and/or re-install one?  it's also has the locking handle.  thanks for the help!

5.4's a good power plant.. Some issues, but solid performer.. We have a 2000 parts chaser here that has 200K on the clock.. 
 
To remove the tail gate handle, remove the access panel on the inside gate surface.. Under the panel there will be 2 nuts to take loose, and 2 rod/latch clips to release.. Easy job...

i purchased the truck for $13,000.  so hopefully the truck lasts awhile.
