Hi Guys,
New to the forum and drive a '05 crown Vic from the job. I'm very impressed with the 4.6L motor in this big car. I know there are 3.27 gears but I'm wondering if the tranny a special set up. Also,is this motor the same as those in the Mustangs ? It sure seems to pull hard and wide on the top end !

What is in the VIN? Is there a P17 in the 5,6 and 7 digits? If so, it is a police package. The difference in a P71 and regular CV is the PCM. The trans has a few more clutches than street Vics. The suspension is a little heavier and brakes a little heftier. The 3.55 gear package is a little quicker, but lacks on top end. Fuel cut off on P71 is 128 mph.

Yes..it is a P17. The manual says it has the 3.27 rear gears. Pnce I had it on an empty open highway and took it up to just a bit over 120 then let right off. Little did I know i was on the edge of the chip !

Not too sure about the number of clutch plates on the clutch assy., but the police interceptor has a stronger convertor in the trans.

No Not mustang Engine, the Mustang engine has a different set of heads.
