I recenty bought a 2000 Focus Wagon with a 2.0 Split Port engine . It has auto trans. It has 120 K miles but is dry underneath and is not an oil burner. It does however, idle rough especially when the engine is cold. It improves when it warms up. It doesn't miss or cut out and accelerates fine. When you lay your hand on the valve cover you can feel the vibration. Also in the steering wheel. As I said, when it warms up it greatly improves. Exhaust sounds normal. Any ideas? Thanks.

i would start with the basics, put fuel injector cleaner additive in your gas and go from there. if it improves then i would say your car needs a major tune up and either injectors cleaned or new injectors.

there is a tsb for this concern at it states reprogam pcm with update and it works better but they all have some at idle

I'm going to try both suggestions. The cleaner will be easy, but the re-programing sounds more technical. I assume I'll have to take it to a FORD dealer. I assume tsb is technical service bulletin. What exactly is pcm? Thanks for your help.

sorry got it confused the tsb is 04-24-10 rough idle is rear engine roll restrictor for debris not a reprogramming ...

Tried the injector cleaner. ( 2 bottles ) Didn't seem to help. Don't quite understand the last post. Is re-programing the computer still a possible option. I was going to my Ford dealership to see if they could do it.

yes its a possibility but more likely to be the tsb problem

Took my Focus to the local Ford dealership today. I mentioned the service bulletin that said " re-program pcm " and they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about. They looked up 2 tsb's and said neither one would cause my problem. Could you tell me exactly what to tell them so maybe they can find the right information; dates , bulletin number or something. Thanks for all the help so far.
