I'm new to this forum and this may be taboo here but.....Has anyone dealt with this problem of the spark plugs spitting out of the engine, namely the 5.4 Triton????

Yup, seen it multiple times, almost refuse to do plugs in my shop on these vehicles. I do inform my customers of the weak threads

Is this only on the 5.4 or do the 4.6 engines have the same issue

Mainly the 5.4 and 6.8 V10.. but the 4.6 hasn't dodged the bulet either... There is a kit available ($$) to repair/insert the threads rather than yank the head/s...

the 5.4 mainly had the plugs back out of the head or they where blow out. if you have a 4.6 that was a 97 or 98 the spark plugs will have double the threads. good advice only use motorcraft or autolight platium plugs. these have soft metals and want bring the aluminum threads out of the head and with platium plugs you should only have to change them every 120,000 miles.
and don't over tighten the plugs.

Thanks for the advice. I check the torque once a year on my 5.4 and tighten them to 150 inch lbs. like the book says. So maybe I won't have a problem.

thats ok just remember doing so it could cause the plugs to pull the threads out when you change them or seize up. if i where going to go through all the troble of  all that i would pull them out and inspect them for any kind of oil, coolent and carbon spots. and then put more antisieze back on them and tork them back in.
