I have been hunting down do-able V8 swaps for a 2003 Ranger, particularly a 2wd EDGE. I know that I can not go backwards in years, IE using the 5.0 option due to emissions. The MOD motors (4.6 & 5.4) are at best a real squeeze play, as well as weight could pose a real problum with the torson bar suspension. I did see one gent dropped a 4.6 from a Mark V in, but it was a pre-2000 Ranger. I have ran across the fact that the Lincoln LS has a 3.9l V8 pushing 282hp and 250foot with a selectable 5 speed auto (ManumaticI believe). Has anyone heard of an LS 3.9l V8 being swapped in to a Ranger? If anyone as an LS with the 3.9l V8, could you please take some measurements and post them?
Width (valve cover to valve cover)
Height (lowest point on pan to top of valve cover)
Depth (water pump to tranny bell or back of block)
Distance from front of engine/oil pan to motor mounts, and to drop in pan.
Thanks

The 3.9L V8 is a Jaguar AJ-V8 engine. The AJ-V8 is/was used in the Lincoln LS, Thunderbird and also in the Jaguar, Aston Martin and Land Rovers. The engine comes in a 3.5L, 3.9L, 4.0L, 4.2L and a 4.4L displacement. There is also a 4.0L supercharged version that put out 400 hp and 408 ft·lbf of torque (that would be an interesting concept for a Ranger). So if your looking at a 3.9L, you have many options to chose from.
