is the voltage regulator in the alternator in my 97 taurus

Yes,, it's an integral rear mount. The brush holder is bolted to the regulator as well.. Here's a few pics...

my battery develops a few dead cells after about two months mechanic says voltage regulator is overcharging it. any thoughts
