Looking for some information on a 49 F1 upgrade. Currently the truck has a tired old 289 with a 2 speed power glide tranny and a B&M cable shifter made for a car.
The doner vehicle is a 91 F150.
Planned upgrades include:
1. The fuel injected 351w and the E4OD tranny, wiring, and computer. Plan to use the rear tank from the 150 if it will fit otherwise a full size Bronco tank has been suggested.
Question 1. Does anyone know if the tank from the 150 will fit between the frame rails on a 49 F1 pickup?
2. Power steering. A steering box from a 79 - 85 Toyota strait axle truck is about the same size and can be used with only a little modification and the pitman arm from the Toyota can be modified with the knuckle ball from the F1 or can be purchased from different dealers.
Question 2. Has anyone performed the Toyota swap?
3. Disc brakes. I know they can be purchased from different dealers for around $500.
Question 3. Again has anyone performed this add on?
4. Tilt steering, hopefully with a column shifter so the floor shifter can be deleted. The column shifter is not necessary but it would be nice to gain the extra floor space.
Question 4. You guessed it. Has anyone done this? If so what kind of column did you use and what were some of the issues.
