while on another forum the ford guys were going on about how powerful the 390's were.having made it through the 60's i can remember how the 390's were real dogs,great for big cars and trucks but never concered a hi-po engine.the 390 only had one true hi-po and that was the 375/401 hp.1961 model.i worked on a bunch of 390's and could not get them to ever beat a 327 chevy.now the 428's and 427's were different.they could be turned into hell raisers real easy.the only fe engine under 400 cid that i ran was the 396 short track 427.it was a 427 with a 352 crank,in other words could rev like there was no tomorrow.but 390's were not even a good boat ankor
