1996 Contour 2.0L head gasket replacement directions
I'm needingto replace the head gasket on my 1998 Contour 2.0.
I'mexpecting to have to machine the head because it overheated.
I havealready replaced windshield, power steering pump, AC compressor, lower radiatorhose, so I have some basic mechanical skills.
So, I'mlooking for a step-by-step set of directions or a video that I can follow, or even a scan of the relevant Ford repairs manual sections. .
Any sourcesyou can direct me to would be much appreciated.
As a newbie,I may have missed what I'm looking for elsewhere in the posting archives, soapologies if I'm rehashing an old topic.
Thank you inadvance.

Mr. D,
I can't provide the info you are requesting as far as removal/installation of head assy, however, it might be cheaper in the long run to just get a remanufactured/rebuilt head and install that along with usual parts like hoses, thermostat etc.

Welcome to the site..
How many miles?
If down time isn't a huge issue, and not at a real high mileage, it may work out to just pull the head and have your local machine shop do an evaluation. If it didn't need any hard parts, guides, and only required a grind, and surface, you may get off light.. Sent you an email..

Hayapower: I would be very pleased to receive a .pdf of the information to which you referred - it would be super helpful. I acknowledge the suggestion to get the head off and have it inspected - getting an expert opinion and perhaps only a surface would be a welcome outcome. I appreciate your willingness to share. DugIn
