TR3650 Manual Transmission Swap
I apologize about a mutli-post if this has been answered before, but I'm not the most computer savvy person out there. (Hey, what do you expect from a learning mechanic?)
ANYWAYS, to the question.
I'm wondering what all it would take to swap a Mustang TR-3650 5-speed into a Crown Victoria.
I used to own a 1995 CVPI, but sold it due to money issues. I wanted to go ahead with a manual swap into that thing, but unfortunatley never got to do that.
I am planning on either buying a 1st/2nd gen Ranger and going with a full 5.0L Swap, or getting a 98+ CVPI from my Local Ontario Provincial Police Department and do a Transmission swap. The later option seems to be more popular with friends of mine, so I think I'll do that.
What I want to know is what it would take to do this swap. It sounds reasonable, as both the Mustang and the CVPI are equipped with the 4.6L Modular, but In all honesty, I'm not a Drivetrain guy, so I have no idea what I'd be doing here.
It would be helpful if someone with experience posed some sort of guide to doing this swap, and if not that, a list of parts I would need with part numbers. Let me know what you think about the swap, and if you know how I could pull it off, by all means let me know. Thanks!

RE: TR3650 Manual Transmission Swap
I would like to do the same with my '00 but will wait until the AOD dies...and that may take a while since the CVs are pretty reliable and mine has only 127K on it (at least I hope that's the case). I bought mine from the Kansas state surplus pool and was apprehensive about the purchase as it was an ex-highway patrol car (unmarked, but not an Interceptor). You can't test drive the cars....only start them up and verify that they go into gear; so I was taking a chance. Turns out it was driven by parole officers and probably didn't see severe use. 6,000 miles later all seems to be fine...they do get regular maintenance.
Anyway,try this link: http://www.crownvic.net/drock96marquis/index.htm

I think the mustang transmission would be tricky. You'd have better luck with a M5OD out of an F150, but you'd still have all the clutch pedal mounting issue along with mounting a slave cylinder, you'll need a different starter for the different trans, you'll need to change out the flexplate for a flywheel, and you have to use a different length driveshaft which will have to have yokes to match and be balanced to the new components. I've had this same pipe dream before.
