Red face Transmission Fluid ?

Hi All-

I have grand marquis 2010 v8 , and i changed the transmission fluid two times with motorcraft Type M oil , because i dont know that i should put Mrcon V oil to my car ,
NOW
the time of change the oil is come already and i dont know should i changed with MreconV? or its ok if continue use the Type M oil?

some people said you can change the fluid with the right one and the others say s no use what you used before , for more safe for the trasmission life.

what do you think?

thanks for all

you should have a ford dealership fluid exchange the entire trans capacity of 13 liters with the correct fluid ....which is mercon LV

they have a fluid exchange machine that connects to the trans cooler lines. the torque convertor pumps the old fluid out and the machine matches that flow with new fluid in. these machines do not reverse flow and stir up any debris that could clog a passage in the valve body.

the problem with dropping the pan is just what you said. half of the old, wrong fluid stays in the system and mixes with the new fluid.

when you exchange half the fluid. At the next oil change they will check the fluid and tell you it dirty. to me its like doing an engine oil change and putting half of the old oil back in....makes no sense to change half the oil capacity.

I just had my trans flushed at the dealer. Cost about 250 bucks. They put a cleaner in, run it and then completely remove ALL the fluid . Replace the filter and refill. That motorcraft MerconV runs about 8 bucks or so a qt. Expensive, but then you'll have peace of mind knowing you have all the correct fluid in there.

Type "M" fluid? Never heard of it. Only type "F" for Ford.

As "primem" stated, the correct transmission fluid for your vehicle is Motorcraft MERCON LV. Anything other than will become a major failure/headache.

I highly doubt that any newer Fords sre using type F fluids anywhere. Last I checked Fords are using MerconV which supersedes Mercon fluid.

That is correct on the type "F". I just stated that I never heard of a type "M" fluid.

Depending on the vehicle/transmission/transfer case, the current 3 fluid specs will either call for Mercon V, LV or SP.
