Default 06 E350 steering shaft replacement

Hi I have an 06 e350 wagon that I need to replace the steering shaft I have watched the videos for the f150 but it's not the same this has a solid shaft for the steering box that runs through the fire wall to a universal behind the steering wheel and help on the actual process would be great it just doesn't seem like there will be any room to slide the shaft up to disconnect it

Before getting into how to remove the shaft assy, can we ask why the shaft needs to be removed? Sometimes depending on what is the problem an easier solution may be available.

Yes the shaft has been binding lately I put some oil on the lower universal joint and it stopped the binding the van has 180,000 miles it's just worn out I understand how to get it apart on the tutorials for the f150 it's two pieces and it pulls apart and comes out on this it doesn't seem like there's much play to get the end joints apart I was going to disconnect the bottom first and hope to be able to pry them apart the top connection is inside the van it is like new I guess my question is is there a listed procedure for this removal just can't find any info on the steps that need to happen and the order they need to happen in

Thumbs up

The shaft should easily compress and should give you plenty of clearance to get both/one of the pinch bolt and couplers clear. Remove the dash seal. Be sure to lock the steering wheel straight ahead so not to damage the clock spring.
