1993 Ford E 250 Blows EEC Fuse
The van stopped running I figured I was low on gas so I put 8 gallons of gas. It wouldn't start so I tried starting fluid and it would run a little until it ran out of the fluid.
I finally found that EEC fuse 30AMP was blown. So I took fuse out and it was a 50AMP the van started right up. I was able to drive it. I purchased another 30AMP fuse and put the 50AMP back where it belonged. I was able to drive it for a little while like maybe 10 miles total then it started running real rough and the OD light started blinking. I replaced the fuel pump and it still wouldn't start so as smart as I am I didn't think to check the fuse. Well you guessed it the EEC fuse was blown again. I put the 50AMP fuse back in and it started right up.
Any ideas on why it seem to keep blowing the EEC fuse?
Thank you in advance for any help

What engine do you have in the vehicle? Have you done any recent work with any of the wiring?
The reason I ask is , there are several components on that circuit and a clue would/ could be helpful. It starts at the ign switch goes to the TFI module , the coil and the radio capacitor. It is supposed to be a RED with Light Green tracer wire.
There is possibly an excessive draw on that fuse. The ideal thing to do would be to place an ammeter in the line and see the total draw then start disconnecting each one of the components and see which one is pulling too much or where a wire could be pinched or rubbing through and causing a partial short to ground.

Hank,
Thank you very much for responding to my question. It is a 5.8L gas with automatic. Part of my problem is this has been the most reliable vehicle I have owned in quite awhile. I bought it about 6 year ago with 160,000 miles on it. It has never failed to start except when I had to replace battery.
I have a tendency to run it pretty low on gas because I don't go very far very often. I have never done anything to it other than tuneups and oil changes and the such. So, it really surprised me that it just quit running.
I did try and start it with some starting fluid and I got it running a couple of time and then it made a funny noise when it tried to start and that was it. It took a while to figure out the fuse had blown but as soon as I replace the fuse she fired right up.
The only problem with that is it ran good for a while and then is was cutting out and I had to keep my foot on the gas pedal to keep it going. I looked a little further and found a vacuum hose that comes off the purge valve solenoid just hanging the other end is in the manifold. I am assuming from what I have read the other end should be purge valve canister. Which I think is located under the drivers side between the gas tank and the engine. I tried plugging the hose and it doesn't seem to help.
Also when it start running real bad the light on the O/D starts blinking.
I don't know whether the further information helps or makes things more complicated. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to me and I will check out what you suggested. Thank you,
Ron Sliter
