The 2010 was a replacement for the 2003. The 2010 runs 5 days per week. Nearly all the miles are highway miles so everything is different. Fluids are the most important.

Oil changes - Every 5,000 to 7,000 miles. Nothing but Valvoline. Motorkote added and air filter replaced every 3rd change. Starting to use a little (1 qt) between changes.

Transmission - Every 200,000 miles. Local Trans Shop drops the pan and replaces the filter. He also does the rear end. (Motorkote added at those times)

Tires - Remember highway miles. Replace every 180,000 to 210,000.

Ball joints - every 275,000 to 300,000. Needed now.

Brakes - Every 300,000 miles.

Changes Plugs and a couple of coils at 525,000. Although the van was running fine, I was worried they would be welded in so I had them changed. Ford replaced then for a reasonable price.

1 alternator at 475,000. The 2003, 7.3 had to replace the alternator and vacuum pump every 175,000.

1 throttle body at 95,000.

2 oxygen sensors at 450,000.

Catalytic convertor at 525,000.

And, a deer strike in January of this year. Right front. $3,800 repair.

A few small items like hood cable, more light bulbs than you can count, same with wipers.

Again the most important thing is your fluid. Use quality products.

Jim, Thanks for your time and info.

Personally, I find this info hard to believe and I'm pretty sure all your stops and deliveries are not on the side of a highway. Maybe you rounded off some of the miles, but unless your maintenance is done on weekends along with repairs running these kinds of miles with a gasoline engine is difficult to grasp especially with the problems known to develop with the 5.4s. Somehow the math doesn't jive.

As someone who drove an Econoline daily for years and drove a lot of miles, I can't see the math either.

Jim,
Could you please provide the info on the driver's door label of your 2010 Ford, like GVW, trans code, axle code etc? I'm sure a lot of folks will be interested to get these for future purchase. Also could you provide the name and location of the Ford dealer that has been maintaining your vehicle, thanks.

Hanky,

The door jam states the following:

9000 GVWR
Front 3700 LB
Rear 5520 LB
Axle B4
TR Q

Transmission and rear end fluid changes have been done by a local transmission shop. The throttle body, catalytic converter, one oxygen sensor, plugs and coils were done by 2 different dealers in Dayton, OH and Pittsburgh, PA. Most of the oil changes are done at Valvoline Instant Oil Change locations. All other repairs and maintenance have been done by myself.

Well Hanky,

It's time to retire. The van now has 789,377 and needs more than I want to put into it. At this point I should replace the tires, front and rear brakes, re-pack the wheel bearings, and the rear main seal. Oil consumption is 1 quart per 1000 miles, worn out.

Hi again Jim !
I still think you ought to let Ford know what service can be received from their product with the proper care. Who knows they may want to take your vehicle and give you another new one. Would love to see the pix up on a billboard showing the owner and the number of miles you put on it!
