Default Missing Door Keyhole on 2007 Edge

My girlfriend is having issues with her 2007 Edge power locks not unlocking the Drivers Door in the cold weather. So she said she had to go in through passenger door to unlock the drivers door to which my response was why didn't you just use the key to unlock the door. Her response was that it does not have a keyhole in the Drivers Door. Sure enough while there is an access hole in the door handle for a key, the hole appears to be blocked off. Either there is no keyhole or it is covered up. Looking in there it kind of looks like aluminum foil with a clear plastic cover over it.

I would assume it had a place to unlock the door from the factory, right? It has both a remote and the Keypad, but I would l think it would still have a keyhole.

Has anyone seen anything like this? I am wondering if there is a peice of insulation behind the door handle that has slipped down over the hole.
