My 2003 Escape transmission is stuck in Park. I start the engine, leave the hand brake on (or take it off - no difference), press the brake pedal down, but I can't shift into Reverse or Drive. Just happened today. Shift level not loose.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

 

Hi, check if your brake lights works when you press the brake pedal. Probably it doesn't. If that is the case, check under the dash you will see a rod type switch attachec to the brake pedal lever with a connector and two wires. One is solid green and the other one should be green and red. Disconnect it and by inserting a cutter pin or anypiece ofsteel into the two terminals of the connectors to bypass the switch. Chck if your brake light works after that.

If it does, replace the brake switch.
