04 Escape, will not manual key start, will remote start, HELP!!!
My truck sat idle for about 3 months. Battery went dead, we replaced the battery. Now, when I try to manually key start the car, it wont turn over. All the lights come on, the radio turns on, my check engine, oil and low battery light stay on, no clicking noise, nothing. But, when I remote start it, it turns on fine, put the key in the ignition and it drives well. The car will turn off manually, just not on, but the remote start is fully active. We drove around, put gas in it and all. Anyone know what is going on?

With a PATS anti theft system, the keys integrated 'transponder' signal is picked up when the key is cycledand the engine will then crank and start.. With a remote start equipped vehicle, the key lockset has a kit installed signal coil that's wrapped around the key cylinder so that when you are remote starting, the needed signal is provided by the remote starts interface module and coil assembly for the vehicle to start without the transponder key needed in the ignition.. Where does this leave you? Have you tried another key to see if it starts? PATS lamp flashing trying a key start?
The way the remote starts work is,, the ignitions B+ as well as the ignition (crank) and a few others are bypassedof the ignition switch.. When remote started,, the remote modules relays 'switch'the needed power distribution bypassing the ignition switch, and also will close the iginition (crank) relay to spin the engine over.. During an install, the ignition wire is cut and is then routed through the remote module.. If the relay were bad in the module, the vehicle may not start..
Since this developed after a battery change seems it may be a PATS in nature, but since is does start remote should take any starter relay, fuses, and possibly PATS out of the diagnosis and would have melookfirst at the cut/redirect wire (TN/LB) in the ignition (crank) for 12V there as a starting point.. More so if there's no PATS warning lamp indication. If there's 12v going in the remote module and nothing out on both sides of the TN/LB wire when cranked with the key, the module would be suspect.. If voltage passes through then most likely PATS caused...
