Default Cold weather trouble with idle

Hi,
I have a 2001 Escape, V6 engine and I guess it really does not like it when it's cold outside. Usually the car runs just perfect but when the winter arrives and temps drop into the 20s the truck does not want to run idle right when I first start it. I have tried by stating it without touching the gas pedal. and also by pushing it all the way down and then releasing it. I don't know which method is the right one, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. It takes some time and eventually after about 5 miles of driving it will act normal again.
What could I do to fix that?

You should be able to start it without touching the gas pedal. The computer controls the idle speed etc., based on info from the coolant and intake air temp sensors.
It could be a problem with one of those sensors or the wiring.
Were you able to have it checked for any stored codes, that may help provide some direction.

I think I got it.I replaced the airfilter, cleaned the Mass Airflow sensor and the throttle intake. This morning it started up much better and the car seems to run a lot smoother too. I did buy an ICV but I have not replaced that yet. I might not have to. I bought an after market one at O'reillys. But I heard that these are not always reliable. So I will take the old one out first and clean it tomorrow.Maybe that's good enough.
BTW Napa O'reiily, Auto Zone...does it matter where I get the parts from? Is any one of those places a higher quality supplier? Ford OEM is just really expensive.

Motorcraft parts are available in places other than the dealer.
