What is the going rate for a tuneup?
I have two 2001 escapes. Both over 100000 miles. One of them gives me trouble in the winter. Cylinders misfire and the check engine light comes on. I have had a coil replaced in the past and that took care of it but that was one of the front 3, that are easy to replace. Last year I got a code for one in the back but I added Lucas injector cleaner and the issue went away. The truck ran great all summer but now it's back.
I have checked with Ford and another local repair shop. A tuneup (with new coils) is 750.- ouch!!!
Is that a typical rate or should I keep looking for a different mechanic?

If the tune-up includes 6 new OEM coils w/boots and 6 new OEM spark plugs (all actually replaced), then $750 is a real good price. Normally the upper intake needs to be removed (can you say "New Gaskets") to get to plugs 1-2-3 unless they have a real good contorting mechanic that can do the job without removing anything. Then your normal labor rate of about $75/hr+ depending on where you live.
Ask for all of your old parts (they have to give them to you). I mark everything I can if having somebody else do the work for me. Have had a few occasions where parts were not replaced, but they tried to charge me for the new part(s) and labor for replacing them.
Does their "TUNE-UP" also include a new fuel filter and air filter? A tune-up to me would include these 2 items.
Also, at 100000 miles on them, I would also flush out the cooling system and put in a fresh fill of antifreeze. I do my vehicles every 4 years or 50K miles (But, that's me).
