Default rough idle/stalling problem

I’ve had my 97 escort for about a year now. A few months ago a began to notice that when I first turned the car on, or was at a stoplight, or any other time the car was at a low idle it would idle very very rough. Eventually the problem got worse to the point that if I was at a light the car would just stall. Initially I thought the problem had something to do with the fuel injectors but since then I’ve bought and used fuel system cleaners 3 or 4 times to no success. Any idea what could be causing this?
