Default 1999 Expedition Electrical Issues

Hello ! I"m new to the forum but definitely not new to Ford ! Just purchased a 1999 Expedition and having issues with a few things and was wandering if they were related. First of all no brake lights, no turn signals, no radio, power windows or mirrors won't work. No interior light, and won't come out of park. I got a good deal on it and was hoping for an easy fix..... Ha Ha ! I have checked all the fuses and disassembled the under portion of the dash to see if a plug was loose but found nothing...... Any advise would be much appreciated..

Thanks !
Ray

From what you describe , it sounds like your vehicle has a problem in the SJB (smart junction box) .

If your vehicle had/has a problem with a leaking windshield, which was very common, water ran down on to the fuse panel and smart junction box and did it's thing.
When this happens replacement of the fuse box or GEM module may be necessary.
There is a site that will explain this for you. Auto Parts Cheaper Genuine OEM Parts For Less

Thanks ! Would it be worth pulling the fuse box and trying to clean and inspect ? Had the same problem on a 1985 motorcycle that was repairable but I'm sure this is a different animal all together......

Thanks again !

Pulled the fuse box and there are no signs of any corrosion or water damage at all.... pulled the brake switch and continuity between #4 and five is the only thing I can see any change in when the switch is depressed. Think it is still good ? Also if I replace the GEM module dose it have to be programed ?

Thanks,
Ray

I believe you can replace the GEM for a 1999 without having it programmed.

Do you know if the power windows are controlled by the GEM ? Only ask because I was wondering if I was getting power to it.... Headlights tail lights and all dash lights gauges ect are working.....

hanky you were spot on ! it was the SJB ! Fuse under the hood was gone ! I found a schematic to see what fuse was what and I'll be darned if that empty spot was 50amp for "Smart Junction Box" ! All is good now except radio display. It works but can't see what station I'm on.
Thanks for your suggestions.... You were a lot of help... Oh and prayers I think helped more than anything !

Mechanic told me the other day that if your interior lights, running board, etc won't shut off on time delay that the door switch is probably bad. It is causing the electrical to stay in accessory mode. Just a thought.
