Load Leveling Suspension

Load Leveling Suspension
I know this may be a dumb question. I just bought a 2000 expedition xlt 4x4 to play with. I want to know if it has load leveling suspension. I didn't even realize that they had that until today. How do you tell and are there any option lists located on the vehicle.

RE: Load Leveling Suspension
There are a couple ways you could check. One, if there is a 'check suspension' light in the instrument cluster that comes on briefly when you start the car - I think this only is there when you have the LLS (Load Leveling Suspension). Two sure ways to check are, look at the rear axle and see if there are two rubber tire (sideways) looking bladders between the axle and the chassis (like the ones you often see on big-rigs) or look for a suspension control module & on/off switch just above or on the side wall above the front passenger foot-well.
The most obvious answer is with LLS, if working, you will hear a compressor running each time you start the vehicle to raise and adust the suspension.

I have the LLS and it makes a really awful noise when it kicks in. It is rather annoying. Does anyone have suggestions for me as to how to muffle out or make it stop? Is it possible to disengage the whole thing, and would that damage the system?

Passenger side, front, under the hood... there's the compressor for the air suspension... replace the rubber bushings which hold the compressor in place... that'll muffle the most noise because the compressor won't be rattling the whole truck. When the bushings wear out, it gets louder and louder.
Good Luck
