Default display ?

Hello all. I have a '03 expidition. On the instrument panel in the lower right corner is a digital readout that displays the odometer on top and the direction in the lower left and the temp. in the lower right.
My question is that recently, between the direction and the temp. the letters CAL have appeared. Can anyone tell me what they are for.
Thanks in advance

Default RE: display ?

Has anyone pressed the trip/reset button? Soundslike the compass needs a calibration or may have a problem.. Here's the steps,, see if the message is removed after completed..

Compass Calibration—Without Message Center
NOTE: For optimum calibration, drive to an open, level location away from large metallic objects or structures. Switch off all non-essential electrical accessories (rear window defrost, heater A/C, map lamps, wiper, etc.) and make sure all the doors are closed.
[ol][*]Start the vehicle.[/ol]
[*]Enter the compass calibration mode by pressing and holding the TRIP/RESET button for 8 seconds. The instrument cluster display will then show CAL.[/ol]
[*]Slowly drive the vehicle in a circle at no more than 5 km/h (3 mph) until CAL turns off in the instrument cluster [/ol]
