I have an 03 Explorer and the door open light stays on which driving. We know all the doors are closed... then a few miles or a few hundred miles it will beep the doors will lock and everything will be normal until we get in and drive again. Does anyone know if this is a switch that may be bad or some other issue.

Anybody have any tips... things to try?

 

Generally when the door light/ajar stays illuminatedit's one of the door ajar switches.. Shown here in the image, item#16, you can see it on the 'underside' of the door latch.. They collect dirt/debris and can stick sometimes and register a door not fully closed.. You can try using a light lube spray (silicon ect.) and spray the door latches concentrating on the lower latch area..Then cycle/close the doors repeatedly to help in getting it/them unstuck.. A scan tool would show which 'if any' were open, but without, usually the topical lube 'and' follow up treatment will keep them free and may correct the problem... Stay away from heavy grease type lubes, or penetrants (WD40) ect. for a better result... It's a fairly common problem with many MY/Models, and worth a try prior to condemning any other components..

Thank you for the response, would you happen to have the image for the back hatch, I beleive that I have narrowed it down to the back hatch.
