Default 1999 Explorer Sport- check engine light

So my check engine light came on again as it does every few months or so. Sometimes it goes away after a day or so maybe due to bad gas or something.
It came on again this week and I took it to Autozone to check the code it was P0303, cylinder 3 misfire. I had that before last year and changed the spark plugs and wires after it happened more than once. Now also there was another code P0442 they said there was a small leak exists in the evaporative emission control system.

So i'm not sure where that it and i wanted to know how serious it is and do i need to replace a part.

any help with this is appreciated.

thanks.

If you had the plugs and wires done and the misfire code is usually cyl#3, then I may suspect the coil-pack could be going bad. It is quite simple to change if you don't mix up the wires

P0442 EVAP Control System Leak Detected (Small Leak) Detailed Description..............
The PCM monitors the complete EVAP control system for presence of a small fuel vapor leak. The system failure occurs when a fuel vapor leak from an opening as small as 0.10 cm (0.04 inch) is detected by the EVAP running loss monitor test.

Possible causes :-
After-market EVAP hardware (such as fuel filler cap) non-conforming to required specifications.
Small holes or cuts in fuel vapor hoses/tubes.
Canister vent solenoid stays partially open on closed command.
Damaged, cross-threaded or loosely installed fuel filler cap.
Loose fuel vapor hose/tube connections to EVAP system components.
EVAP system component seals leaking (EVAP canister purge valve, fuel tank pressure sensor, canister vent solenoid, fuel vapor control valve tube assembly or fuel vapor vent valve assembly).

I would start with a fuel cap, but it could be a number of things in the EVAP system. May have to "Smoke test" it to find it.

I had that same problem. I replaced plugs, wires, and coil pack. The error code was alternating between cyl #3 and cyl #5 misfire. The box of wires I bought were bad from the box (as was the coil pack) from AutoZone. I got store credit, and exchanged them. The important thing is don't buy wires with orange feet. The coil pack was an even exchange. I bought "mid-of-road" wires (with oranage feet) the first time, and got the expensive set the 2nd time. works great ever since! talking with a buddy he says to stay away from "mid-road" wires with orange feet (quote: "they are junk!") and he's right! I just wish I would have known that the first time...

Turns out it was just a cracked spark plug. Easy fix, well let me not jinx it.
