Default freeze plugs

HAS ANYONE CHANGE OR HAD FIXED THERE FREEZE PLUGS? I HAVE A 1995 EXPLORER AND MY REAR FREEZE PLUGS ARE LEAKING. DEALER TELLS ME THE JOB IS WAY TOO EXPENSIVE TO FIX THAT I SHOULD JUST KEEP CHECKING MY COOLANT LEVEL AND RUN IT ALL I CAN. IM GOING TO DO IT MYSELF AND IF ANYONE HAS ANY TIPS I WILL APPRECIATE IT. THE DEALER GARAGE ALSO TOLD ME THEY WOULD HAVE TO REMOVE THE MOTOR AND THATS WHY IT WOULD COST SO MUCH. SOME ONE ON THIS SITE SAID THAT BY DROPPING THE TRANNY INSTEAD OF YANKIN MOTOR OUT, WOULD BE LOTS EASER. HELP???????

Default RE: freeze plugs

Thereare also plugs available that can be installed with a wrench, instead of a hemmer or press. They are made with rubber and expend into the freeze plug hole when tightened. I only used them on boat motors, but they work very well. Don't know if that would work for you, but it may be a less expensive fix. Someone else may know more and jump in about car/truck applications for this plug.
