Remove the console trim ring, then the console finish/trim panel.. Then remove theinstrument center finish panel and connectors..

The difficult part of removing the audio unit appears to be the first step.... removing the Front floor console trim ring. The shop manual says to "remove the pin-type retainer and release the 2 floor console front clips" Does anyone know where these items are located? Can't even start the project without this step. Also, how does the trim ring slip over the floor shifter?

Think your service manual is directing you to remove the complete console.. The push pin connectors are up on the leading portion of the console as pictured below.. To remove the audio unit you should only need to remove the trim ring and should just snap down,then the console finish panel..

Yes, you are correct. I now realize it's not necessary to remove the entire floor console. And once the trim ring is removed it's easy from there. Thanks much. Looks like the problem is solved.
