I have a 97 ford explorer and when I put it in park it will skip foward a few times before it stops. I adjusted the shift cable linkage and it is still jumping foward in park. It feels as though it is not going into park all the way.

Does the shift selector seem to have excessive range play? If so, look at the base of the column where the selector cable arm connects/attaches to the shifter tube.. The torx screws like to back out causing a selector 'hunt' and sometimes will cause the selector to not pull the cable all the way back.. Could be a detent/parking pawlproblemas well..

you may need to adjust the shift linkage under neathe the truck. its best to shift the tranny in first gear and adjust the lever from that possition. making sure that the lever moves easy throw all gears. james
