which tranny in a 99 explorer
A 1999 Ford Exploder Eddie Bauer AWD with the 5.0L V8, automatic. Do you know which tranny that has? It is either the 4R70W (most likely), or the 5R55E, but I can't figure out which one.It has a problem with the tachometer cable, when you rev the motor, you can hear it sqealing with the revs. We were trying to figure out where the tach cable mounts to the tranny. Thank you for any help I can get.

4R70W..
You can look on the VCL (vehicle cerification label) label in the drivers door jamb.. On the bottom row of codes you'll see "TR" listed. The code for a 4R70W is 'U' and the code for a 5R55E would have been a 'D'.. There's no speedo cable for the tach, and is a all electronic unit.. A real common issue for squeal/chip sounds is the Cam Synchronizer.. Looks like a short version of a distributor up front of the engine with a sensor/connector on top.. Listen there with a listening device.. The shaft and housing tend to run dry and will cause a terrible noise usually more noticable cold, but will raise/lower with the throttle applied..
