Default 1999 F150 truck

I just bought the truck and it doesn't have a 6 way tow plug..I'm going to install one...no I'm not a man...but im going to do his...I put breaks on one just like it a few years back...so fig..this can't be to bad..

Question is I look at electric brake boxes, and so many to choose from...can anyone tell me a good one that won't brake me to purchase it..I'm pulling a 26' alumina lite travel trailer..

My truck has the flat 4pole wire on it..I've look up how to change it on YouTube..and other places don't seem like a big deal to me..just want to not get a bad brake that won't stop it, but don't want to over buy one I don't need...

I'm on limited income, have had cancer and trying to enjoy the best years of my life in a camper somewhere on the water..lol
Thanks to all that and..God bless

Does get a bit confusing..

Tekonsha is a large supplier, have been for years, good units. Draw Tite, Reese, Curt as well.
Basically there are two types,, Proportional and Timed delay/activation.
Proportional is just that, where the controller applies the trailers brake at the same basic rate as the tow vehicle. They tend to be a bit more expensive but some like them because of brake application equal to the tow vehicle causing even brake wear etc. with less risk of control loss..
Timed units are more ‘occasional user’ units, with Gain/sensitivity control for more ‘seat of the pants’ control. There are many of these installed and work just fine, and for me, i like adjusting my trailers application at times. Tend to be a bit less expensive as well.
When selecting a controller, it’s normally by how many axles/brakes the unit can handle. I’ve installed many that NAPA and such offer, most were timed controllers. I like having the gain and sensitivity customizable. Generally going with a mid priced unit will get you what you want, with a warranty for some years..
I can help you with wire routing, harness wire selections for adding in the trailer adapter you choose.

Was the door lock question on another post for this same vehicle?

I am just getting over my Lymphoma now and had my last Nulasta shot to fire the bone marrow back up... It has been a trip in it'self but still moving forward. I use Curtis and Reese on some trucks too. So far no complaints. Good Luck and Love and Light to ya...
