Default 93 f150 acceleration issues

My girlfriend has a 93 2wd f150 with a 302 i6, automatic. Bought the truck with 181,000 miles for 500 bucks and would like to have it running well for her. The issue is that the truck regularly has trouble accelerating. Starts just fine. Around 20-30 mph the acceleration becomes very jerky. My guess is the throttle position sensor has gone bad. What else could be the culprit? How do I go about checking what is wrong. Any help appreciated. Thanks[sm=smiley20.gif]

Generally the TPS will set a code and the CELmay go on/off.. They also cancause a flat throttle as the TPS signal drops out.. With the indicated miles, when was the last time it was tuned up, wires ect? Make sue the wires are not shorting and routed well.. Things I'd check would be the fuel pressure during the stall, TPS, and make sure the ignition components are not the cause, both primary and secondary.. With 181K, thats a significant amount of mileage on the fuel pumps, ignition module ect.. Will it accelerate past 20-30mph if forced, does it smooth beyond that speed or continue to stumble?

I don't know when the last tune up was. There were no records when we bought it. I plan on doing a tune up in the next week. It does accelerate beyond 20-30 when pushed. Could this possibly be a transmission issue?

I just bought a similar truck, a '96 with a 4.9 I6 auto. It idles fine and revs up ok in neutral, but when trying to accelerate, it just doesn't want to get up and go. It doesn't matter if you put it to the floor or just give it a bit of throttle, it is very slow to accelerate, it even dies out on hills on the highway to around 35-40mph. I have driven other 4.9 I6 F150's and they seem to pull pretty good and have lots of torque on the hills. This truck needs help. It has 240,000 km. I checked the plugs and they look OK. Could the converter be plugged? The engine sounds great at idle, nice and smooth and no ticks or knocks at all. E[8D]ven when revs up in neutral, it sounds ok, but in gear, itdoesn't seem to want to rev up with any power. Please advise on whatto check first. No check engine light on.
