Default ABS Light On

2000 F150, 207K miles, 4.2 liter. This morning on way to work the ABS light comes on. After killing truck at work I notice I can hear something running...sounds like a pump of some kind, so raise the hood and track the noise to the brake booster/ master cylinder area. Not having time to really look at it the only way I could get it to stop running was to disconnect the battery terminal... figured no since in having a dead battery at the end of the day or worse, something overheating and burning the truck up...Any ideas????

It is possibly the ABS pump relay stuck on. If you do not have an owners manual, go to www.fleet.ford.com and click on maintenance tab, then owners manuals. Once it loads, go to roadside emergencies and it will list all fuses and relays and their locations. If the light contues to stay on, you need to have it scanned at a shop that has a tool with capabilities to read the ABS module.

I have the owners manual and when I get off I will pull the fuse, 102, I was wondering how it is going to effect my brakes? Always a bad thing to find out when you need to stop that it may be a delayed affect..... like my old drum brakes on my '67 stang...

It will not affect the braking at all. All that will happen is the brakes will lock up and the truck wikk slide because the ABS is disabled.
