Default transmission compatibility

Can an automatic transmission from a 1991 F150 4WD 351 engine replace the transmission in a 1995 F150 4WD 351 engine? The two transmissions look the same, except for an extension-type thing on the rear of the 1995 transmission, which I assume/hope could be transferred to the 1991 transmission. davejg
