Default 1971 f250

Let me preface: I am not really a legitimate automotive enthusiast. I was just raised to be a die hard Ford customer. I know very little about automotives but, I like Fords, and I really like old Fords.

I'm considering buying a 1971 F250 but, I'm toying with the idea of making a few updates, including replacing the steering column to equip this truck with airbags. Has anyone attempted to do this, who could share some insight or advice?

All replies are appreciated. Thanks.

Well girl, if you want to update it, go with some simpler things like buckets seats with good shoulder restraints. In order to put air bags in, your looking at alot of costly equipment to make the airbags work. You're going to need the sensors in the bumper that tell the computer that you just hit something. And that factory bumper from 1971 was built a little stronger that the ones that are built today. I'm no engineer, by any means, but if you know one, you may be better off to ask him or her. I think you're gonna need an engineer anyway. Good luck, keep us posted on how you make out!

From asking around, amongst some of the car enthusiasts I know, the general consensus was that, it ain't worth it, really, to equip an old vehicle with airbags. So, I figure I'll be making a few little changes, like the shoulder restraints.

I appreciate the feedback, and I certainly will let y'all know how it goes. Thank you.

...you're getting some realistic advice....retrofitiing is never easy,or cheap. That era truck,if it still can be found in good shape, was very unforgiving if something went bump.
