Question 1987 F-350 7.5 liter gas no start

This truck is a dual-gasoline tank model. The tiny connector part between the tanks broke on the way home four months ago and that is the last time the truck ran. We replaced that part but no power. Friend found out about an inertia switch under the driver's side dash up northwest of the brake pedal. Pulled it out and tried by-passing the inertia switch by connection those two wires (that had gone to the now=defunct inertia switch) but NOTHING. Are there more of these switches? a fuse? This inertia swtich said First Inertia Switch England but is that a brand name, first in a line of these? Our Chilton mentions nothing about inertia switches at all but talk to just about anyone and they have a story about these damn things! Help, please, we need to get a load of hay home soon, thank you, Maureen and Neil Hamilton
