2000 F-250 7.3L Diesel Air Conditioning
My compressor will come on when the engine starts and cool until the engine warms up and then cuts out. If I leave it turned off for a minute or two and then try to turn it back on, it will come back on, cool, and then cut out again. The compressor will not cycle on and off by itself. I have to manually do it. I have a good charge on the system and none of the lines freeze when it is running. I jumped out the low pressure switch on the suction line in order to bypass the switch and it still cut out. I heard somewhere that there was a sensor that cut the compressor out on heat overload. I'm not sure if that's heat in the freon or heat in the compressor. I am an a/c man by trade and understand car refrigeration somewhat. Do I have a bad compressor or is there another option for me to look at? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

There is a high-pressure cutout switch - not sure where it is.
Also, the air-gap for the clutch might be too big and it won't reengage, but that usually does it only when the engine gets hot. It usually cycles on and off a few times before it quits engaging.

thanks for replying. If the air gap is messed up, then the high temp sensor in the compressor would fail. That makes sense. Probably better to replace the compressor that try to mess with the shims. I'll also investigate the high temp sensor also.
