Default 2006 F-350 Wrench Light (Dash)

Today as I was driving and I noticed a light on the dash that came on, it looks like a wrench, but any way, I looked in the owners guide to see what that meant. It says something about the Electronic Throttle Control, and that the engine has defaulted to a "Limp Home" operation. Does anyone know what this means exactly. I only have 4300 miles on it.

You have a problem with the Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor...

The APP sensor is a 3-track potentiometer thats used to calculate 'driver' demands for fuel/throttle quantity. The sensor receives a VREF voltage from the PCM and provides a variable voltage signal directly proportional to the accelerator pedal position.

A detected malfunction of the APP sensor illuminates the electronic throttle control (wrench) indicator. A PCM detected fault on one of the 3 sensor signals permits normal engine operation. A fault with 2 sensor signals only allows the engine to operate at idle..

The throttle control is all 'fly by wire' meaning throttle control is done fully electronically... If you look just up above your accelerator peddle you'll see the Sensor/throttle control unit...

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated, but does this usually mean a replacement? or is it possible that something came loose.

Probably just a defect part, could be a connector/circuit, but most just likely a needed replacement.. They failed occasionally even back on the 7.3's.. Not something new...
