fuel pump problems
#2
If I remember correctly ,we used only Carter electric fuel pumps for our vehicles during those years because the other makes could not deliver. That hopefully has changed.
There could be a few reasons for the repeat "burnouts".
Some of them would include poor connections supplying the pump, poor grounds, or poor quality pumps. Have you purchased them all from the same supplier?
I have never had to do this , but you could put a pressure switch in the supply line that would open at the max pressure reading and shut the pump off.
I don't remember if there is a metering valve in the system anywhere. Some pumps just shut off themselves when max pressure was attained, possibly they had an internal metering valve, I really don't remember.

thanks for the reply Hanky. There is a metering valve in the engine compartment in line with the carburator and it was bad.I have replaced it since the last pump quit.I have'nt replaced the pump since, it's getting expensive.Someone suggested putting an inline pump on the frame with seperate electrical source and ground.I don't know if it would draw fuel thru the selector valve.I believe an electric pump pushes better than draw, what do you think.
