Default Purchasing an F-250

Hey Im new to this site, not sure if Im doing this correctly. But I currently am a Ford owner (2005 Expedition) and was thinking of trading it in on a 2006 f250 4 door, shortbed, 6.0. It has 65,000 miles on it. I am going to look at it on Monday and was asking for possible things to look for when I go test drive. Also any typical problems that go wrong with them that anyone has commonly experienced. I was also wondering if anyone can shine some light on the actual milage I would get if I would keep it pretty much stock, I keep hearing one extreme or the other. Thanks in advance, I appreciate it.

Ford dealer trade? 4x4?

Have your local Ford dealer run an Oasis Report on the trucks VIN. It'll give a history of any warranty and updates/service actions done. Without getting into possible 6.0 issues, if the Oasis doesn't show any major repairs completed (being a lower mileage, and not too far out of warranty) through Ford then an option may be to take it to a shop that's familiar with the 6.0. Or,,

If its bone stock, (no lift, evidence of chip/gauges/pipe ect, hasn't be used in severe duty or heavy towing, has any included service docs to date (? )for instance, trans should have been serviced if auto by now) then just making an educated decision may be enough. LOOK it over VERY WELL, top to bottom.. ANY evidence of oil on the bell housing area?, any white deposits around the degas bottle cap? Basically clean (not just detailed) good rubber, bed hammer? body repairs done, so on and so on,,,

Evidence of off road use if 4x4?

My 05 at 125k pushing almost 400hp since break in has been awesome. Best mileage I've ever seen was near 16.7-17mpg. The SD is like a brick moving though the wind. If driven at moderate freeway speeds the mileage should be in that range. Faster you go (like a 8k Lexus!) the mileage suffers a tad.. Love mine,, been a beast and towed some serious iron (set a stock profile)

ALL high performance diesels have their issues, 6.0 included, but later build 6.0 to a degree less. Do your research, look it over, and go from there.. This is my second.. Couldn't pry mine away....
