Default Putting A/C in a non A/C truck

Has anyone added air to a truck that did not have factory air. I want to put air in my truck and it does not have it, I found a complete kit for $1100 but that is a little expensive. I was thinking about getting some used parts from the junkyard and putting a system together. Any thoughts???

Default New to me AC

I'm looking at the same exact dilema. I have delt with this before. The important thing is that you research what years and models had the same AC equipment as your year/model. Make sure you get the entire system out of the donor car, ie. controls, compressor, hoses, condensor and (just looking at my upcoming job I think I will need the atmosphere control box). Take the time to do your due-dilligence and you will not be disappointed, leave out a couple parts and you will have headaches. The factory AC unit should bolt in on top of the engine where the idle pully mounts.
Best of luck!
