Transmission Cooling Tube Ques. 2001, 7.3L, AT.
Hello. 2001 F250 SD 7.3L Ext Cab 4 DR 4x4 with AT. Today, I was doing a transmission fluid flush and I twisted the line that connects to the rear of the transmission. I assume this is also referred to as the "lower" tube. I want to purchase a new one, but I am finding conflicting information.
On a previous post, I found a diagram that has the "rear" tube labeled as #7 7A031 Fluid cooler return tube in the attached image and the front tube as #6 7A030 In-tank fluid cooler inlet tube. I also looked on the Ford website, and they have a similar diagram but the rear tube is labeled 7A030 and the other tube as 7A031. So I am not sure which to order. Ford describes the 7A031 as "(Automatic Transmission); 7.3L/4R100 ``FROM 2/6/00''; Inlet line - from transmission front fitting to radiator" and the 7A030 as "(Automatic Transmission); 7.3L; Return line - from front line to transmission rear fitting"
Looking at the descriptions, I would think I need to order the 7A030. Can anyone with some experience confirm that?

Yeah, was really wondering if the 7A030 or the 7A031 is the return / rear? The images are for the same model, transmission and motor, but have different part numbers.

30 is the return, 31 is the outlet line to cooler..
If your looking at the 388160-S101? Those are part numbers for the line retaining clips..
I'd bet LakelandFordParts will chime in for a MY application part number...

Thanks. Just trying to get my twisted tube straightened out for now, but may buy more stuff later if need be. I bought the 7A030 but I went for the Dorman version because I could get it quicker with Amazon prime. Don't usually order aftermarket parts, but hopefully its good quality. Review was good. Will post results after mounting (Assuming it fits ;-) )

When I did this a while ago, and it got to soft-body-part- in-the-ringer time, I'd get a piece of steel tube of the proper size, bend it into the desired angle, and splice it with flex tubing and 4 hose clamps. It usually isn't the first or last thing leaking on the truck, and will prevent replacing a 10 ft steel pipe that requires the skill of solving the Gordian Knot of trying to R&R.

Amen to Greasemark and Kyle !
Some of those lines run in the most unreachable places and if healthy a good splice will work. In the snow and ice belt they rust through and are a common problem. Once removed , it is almost impossible to install a replacement using the same routing without going bald !(Soft spot in the wringer Time) A perfect situation description !!

I actually bought the Dorman version of the 7A030 and it fits well. I bought it off Amazon Prime. That is why I went with the Dorman. Needed it quick and Prime had it for free 2 day shipping. They shipped it in a long box, so no damage that I could tell, but I did bend it a little to get it to fit easily.
